Strawberry and Honey Yogurt “Cocktails” with Granola
Making dessert has always been intimidating for me. The precision that baking requires feels like a feat that my lack of culinary training can never surmount. It didn’t help that I was brought up in a household where diabetes is a pressing concern—thus, my aversion to sweets—until I met a special someone who loved them. Over time, I developed an affection for desserts, with high preference for fresh, fruity flavors.
As I got older and my gustatory adventures expanded, I learned that desserts do not necessarily require a baking sheet and a kitchen mixer. There are those that simply require putting ingredients together, like my Strawberry and Honey Yogurt Cocktails with Granola.
This is inspired by something I had in one of the newer five-star hotels in Manila. It culminated a three-course breakfast meal: Yogurt with granola and a slice of strawberry, served in a martini glass. For my own rendition, I use Greek yogurt instead of regular yogurt, as it is sweeter and has a creamier volume. I also drizzle some honey on the top for an added natural sweet flavor. And because gourmands like to indulge in good food, I add more strawberry slices that what is necessary. Can’t let those strawberries go to waste!
In the course of developing this recipe, I discovered that using flavorful Greek yogurt is critical. Not only is it the base, but also it is the largest component of the dessert. I highly recommend Pascual Greek Yogurt, but any good quality Greek yogurt should be fine. Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated to them, but hey, believe me when I say it’s the best! You can get them from any grocery or convenience stores. 🙂
Why Strawberry and Granola Yogurt Cocktails, you ask? Simply because I think serving them in liquor glasses add an elegant, aesthetic flourish. I serve mine in a whisky glass, but it should look just as nice when served in a martini, margarita or even a wine glass.
- Two tablespoons granola
- 200 grams or two single-serve cups of Greek yogurt
- Two tablespoons honey
- One fresh strawberry, sliced into four
- Place one tablespoon of granola on one side of a serving glass.
- Pour in one single-serve cup of Greek yogurt.
- Drizzle one tablespoon of honey on top.
- Arrange some strawberry slices on top.
- Repeat for the other serving glass. Serve chilled.
As with many other food bloggers out there, I am no chef. I come with no culinary training whatsoever, and so it’s not at all surprising that my kitchen adventures are punctuated by frequent mishaps and blunders. Yet, there are recipes that I seem to make much better than others. And so, after years of prodding from family and friends, here I am, sharing the little that I know.
Why “gourmand,” you ask? Simply because I like making and eating good food. I can eat a lot, too—so there you go!
Wow! This can also be a healthy breakfast! Looks yum!
Or dessert. 😀
